Key dates and resources
Below is a timeline of the key dates in the 2020 local government elections.

July – September (various dates) | Delivery of Mandatory Candidate Training by councils |
August – September (various dates) | MAV Community and candidate information sessions |
Friday 28 August | Entitlement date. Close of the state electoral voters roll. Candidates must be on the State or local council roll by 4pm on this date to be eligible to stand for council at the election. |
Tuesday – Wednesday 14 – 15 September | Last minute Mandatory Candidate Training delivered by LGV |
Thursday 16 September | Certification of voters roll and opening of nominations |
Tuesday 22 September | Candidates wishing to stand for council must be nominated by 12 noon. |
Wednesday 23 September | Candidate statements, photos and questionnaires must be submitted by 12 noon. |
Tuesday – Thursday 6 – 8 October | Ballot packs are distributed by post to every enrolled person in a random order over three days. |
Friday 23 October | Voting closes. Ballot papers must be in the mail or in the hands of the Returning Officer by 6pm. |
Saturday 24 October | Election day |
Friday 13 November | All elections to be declared by this date. |
